Peter Bergsma
CSI was founded by Peter Bergsma, whose passion for coatings began at age 12 in the Netherlands. After 8 years of specific paint studies and earning a Master Painter, a Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Business in Marketing degrees, Peter built a career spanning over four decades across the superyacht and aviation industries.
From serving as a Technical Manager for Awlgrip and Alumigrip to leading major yacht paint projects, Peter’s expertise has driven innovation in coating technology. His hands-on work has supported everything from RNLI lifeboats and 160m+ superyachts to the airworthy restoration of a Spitfire MK IX.
In 2004, Peter transformed yacht finishing standards by introducing the BYK-Gardner Dual Wave Scan and the first measurable topcoat acceptance criteria, replacing subjective inspections with quantifiable data. He later developed the industry’s first special effect finish standards (2015) and updated yacht coatings acceptance protocols (2019), advancing fairness and precision in surface evaluation.
Since founding CSI in 2002, Peter’s mission has been clear: to share his deep technical knowledge and experience and elevate coating standards worldwide.
